Default Can someone ID this cartridge?

I found a cartridge at the range today. The overall length is similar to 30.06, however the case more resembles a .303 British with out the rim. The bullet is colored silver. Headstamp reads a M in a circle at top, left edge has a 19, right edge has 33 and bottom edge has 3 vertical lines. There is an X from edge to edge separating these figures. The primer was hit but the cartridge did not fire. Pictures of the headstamp would not help as I needed a magnifying glass to read them. Thanks for any info.

I was thinking 7.62x54R until he said without the rim. It could be any number of old cartrigdes. Can you tell what diameter the bullet is? Is the case steel, brass or copper colored?

Wow, seems like you are right. I got out the Modern Reloading manual and measured the 8x57 Mauser and everything matches up. Where did you get this info so quick if you don't mind me asking? Can I assume that they were manufactured in 1933?

    Thanks, + Rep sent

I've owned 4 bolt guns in my life, a German Mauser was one of them. ...and I've done a lot of shooting in my life.

19 33 is typically the production date, but not for all manufacturers.
