Default Any recommendations for a meat slicer?

Need to invest in a slicer. Smokehouse built and getting ready to do some butchering.
Primary need in the very near future is to slice bacon.
From other threads like the grinder one going on I figured there'd be some good advice.
    Thanks.

What's your budget? I have a Chef'sChoice slicer that I use on occasion. It works well enough for basic slicing tasks, but it cannot handle very large cuts of meat. It will tear or bind if the piece being sliced is larger than the blade. Key to good slicing is properly sized meat and it should be cold or slightly frozen. I have sliced meat right from the smoker and it works well, but it makes an unholy mess. Also, you have to clean it thoroughly after every use and it's time consuming because food gets into every nook and cranny. But for the money, it's a good deal.

That being said, there are some really good slicers out there if you're willing to spend the money. If I used my slicer more than a few times a year, I'd probably buy a used Hobart pro model, or something commercial-ish like a KWS 320w or 420w.

Also, get yourself some cut resistant gloves. The blades are wicked sharp and accidents do happen.

I'd recommend auctions. Govdeals.com has them from time to time under kitchens. Auctionzip.com has auctions listed that you can check on. I got me an industrial slicer for $200 from a friend and it's not impossible to find them at auctions for that but patience is a virtue when it comes to auctions.

I started out with a Deni 7.5" (from K-Mart...steel, not plastic) for my jerky biz. Decent for what it was/is (now a backup unit).

Along came a Globe 11.5" commercial...my brother bough it used for a deck party he was having. After said party, he and his wife realized it really didn't fit in their kitchen and asked if I was interested. They spent $600 on it, I got it for 10 bags of jerky. This machine rocks...built in sharpeners, weighs about 125 pounds, anywhere from paper thin to 1.25" cuts and will cut as fast as you can work. Granted, cuts most consistently when meat is semi frozen.

Check craigslist under business...several food supplier wholesalers with used equipment in most decent sized areas.

I've been looking for a decent deal on a slicer on CL for the past couple of years. Found and tried to make arrangements from two different people. Both of them flaked out on completing the deal after several emails back and forth. Both them were still listed for weeks afterwards too. Don't know what is about slicer people, they're weird.

How much are you looking to spend on what? I'll keep my eyes open and pass it along. Since I got mine I have seen a couple of commercial deli slicers in the $200 range. I considered flipping them but I resisted the urge.

Thanks for the offer Walleye. Looking at the ads round here in NWPA and found several listed. Hopefully I'll have better luck than Streaker.
