Default AK (not PSL) in 7.62x54R by TGI

    Hey,

What's the consensus on TGI? I've wanted an "AK" in 7.62x54R for a long time. I was on akforum and it looks like TGI is doing a conversion from a Romy PSL. I would have asked there, but the crowd there is very AK enthusiastic, so an unbiased answer might not have been forthcoming.

I think it would be neat to send one to Krebs for a KTR conversion, or maybe RedJacket for an RTS ZK conversion. The big upside is that 54R is very affordable.

I don't need this gun, but I think I NEED this gun, if you know what I mean.

anyway, here's some pics, looks like 10 round PSL mags are the max:

Yeah this was posted on ARF and AKfiles a while ago.

My only complaint is I would like to see it in a 18" barrel instead of whacking it way down to 16". I'd also like to see a 20rd mag of some variety for them. Although I have heard that might also be getting done.

And lastly... I'd like to see some real world shooting of them before I'd plop down the cash on one. If they can maintain some of the basic accuracy of the PSL in a smaller package. It would make a pretty cool companion to my existing PSL.

And since I have a pile of mags and ammo for the PSL. Having a second more portable option would be neat. Although I'd love to see it in a full stock side folder... that would probably be an impossibility due to the different rear trunion and stock make up recycled from the PSL.

^ The one you are talking about was actually TGI's paratrooper PSL.

Someone posted that they will be in the $700 range.

Royal Tiger Imports is making an AK in 7.62x54r. Looks like a subsidiary of IO.

Interesting way to go. I saw a clip on youtube of a "poor man's PKM":

If you were going to do it I would go through Will at Red Jacket. He does really good work.

That's definitely IO inspired furniture. But that looks like a standard PSL underneath the furniture swap & pistol grip. And not a shortened one or really an "AK" version.

Honestly the latest Century imports are complete rifles (PSL's) and for $579... for a real Romanian built PSL... means no thank you to anything built by IO or a subsidiary of them.

I'd rather get a 'good' one and cut it down instead.

    ETA:
Oh god not that idiot on youtube... he thinks you can bump fire a DMR and it suddenly becomes a heavy barreled machine gun. That kid is a retard.

Judging by what he writes on his comments, he thinks he is all that. I also don't believe you could achieve the 600-670 RPM he states out of bump-firing.

Preemptive response to the inevitable : "7.62x53R" is what the Finns use to call 7.62x54R.
