    Default Smoking Cigars while hunting?

This may sound like a dumb question but, does anyone (who actually gets deer yearly) smoke cigars while hunting.

I didn't know if the deer would smell it and shy away.

Thanks in advance for any positive imput

I've been known to smoke both, cigars and cigarettes, while hunting deer and other critters. ...never really had a problem getting my game if its available. Smoke or not, I try to stay downwind of known deer path or bedding when stalking them. (I'm a stalker hunter, not an ambush hunter)

I can only imagine that if they catch wind of anything out of normal it may spook them.

In my opinion it's the human scent that alerts them. I always use scent killer or other scent masking sprays and washes. I smoke alot and never had a deer spook because of my scent. I've shot quite a few deer at closer ranges (below 40 yards) both in archery season and rifle season with a cigarette in my lips.

I've been thinking of just getting some dip for hunting instead of smoking. I guess if you stay down wind it's not a big problem. Then again I was thinking of asking my hunting partner not to smoke in the car on the way up, so we don't get caked in cigarette odor.

Who really knows. Being downwind is always the best situation, but I stray away from anything that may cost me a close encounter.

Yeah, but I dip them in fox urine before hand.

Seriously . . . no, don't but wouldn't think it would matter as long as your hunting or stand is downwind from where the expected deer are to come from

I smoke my ass off when hunting and never had a problem. Tho I do smoke non filters wile hunting so I don't have a filter to get rid of. Cigars are usually burned after my kill. YMMV

I smoke like it's going out of style while hunting. Cigars, little cigars, cigs, and chew and I always seem to kill something well smokeing. Never falls I'll light up a cig and have to through it down to take the shot. Deer are curious animals and I believe want to check out what's burning to see if they are in danger. Smoke covers your scent and when they realize it's you and not the woods on fire there screwed.
