    Default Obediance training pays off

It is now 4:30am. I just now walked in the door from walking my three dogs. I took them down the street maybe a mile each way. As we were coming home we pass this empty field. All three of them alert onto something in the field. Growling, barking and bouncing around ensues. They about took me off of my feet. This was acceptable up to this point, as they were off of command or free. I gave a sharp heel command Take up the slack on the leashes, and they all fall into step with me.

I stop to give a listen of what is out there. There is no street lights or houses in this area, so I can not see anything out there. Then I here what I hear what I assume is a few deer fleeing from the dogs ruckus. I heel them again and proceed on my way. The dogs were still interested in the deer, but they followed the given command.

If my guys were not trained I could imagine them chasing the deer well into the morning. Maybe getting hit by a car, or worse.

    good dogs.
4:30 isn't late... it's early for those who don't own dogs.

One of my dogs will do that. He has been in the middle of chasing a bunny and I have given him the come command and he has broken off the chase and come back to me... My other one LOL I need to work on her with that.

When I saw the title of the thread, I thought it might be about kids getting great jobs right out of college.

With any dog, obedience training is a must. It makes everybody's life much easier.
I'm surprised you didn't have a light with you.

Light, I don't need a light. The dogs know where to go.
