Re: What is the best 7.62x39 ammo for hunting deer?
Good luck, but you absolutely need to get out there and shoot your SP ammo. Wolf SP ammo (get the new cases if possible, not lacquered). I wouldn't use HP ammo, at least not if you like your butcher since the purpose of HP is to fragment, and those are sharp and can damage more meat
just curious, what is "very accurate" for you?Last edited by Dredly; November 24th, 2009 at 05:43 PM.
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

I heard the expansion characteristics of the hollow points aren't as good as the soft points though. Some have even said they will not expand at all. That is why i wanted to steer away from the hollow points, but i havn't tested them so i dont know for sure.

Re: What is the best 7.62x39 ammo for hunting deer?
Lol, many reasons!
-cheaper to shoot
-more fun to shoot with open sights (and i think target aquisition is a little easier as well)
-i can load more in the sks mag than my 4 round box mag of my 7mm08
-faster cycling the bolt on the sks
-and simply because i want to try it out
Those are the main reasons.

Re: What is the best 7.62x39 ammo for hunting deer?
I have shot deer in the past with hollowpoint 7.62X39, I never thought it was that destructive to the meat, just my personal opinion I suppose.
Way less than the damage I've seen from guys using .338 Win mags and such for deer at 75 yds. But hey, I get what you are saying.
They may not be the first choice, but I was just offering him some options to the $25 boxes of Winchester SP. If he can find SP in cheap Bear, then that's great, if not, HP is legal for hunting, that's all.
