Savage Vs Remington 308
Greetings and Salutations!
I am a new member to your site and I have visited numerous times--nice work with a broad knowledge base of enthusiasts/professionals.
I am attempting to choose a shooter that I can compete with @ ranges out to 800yds. The LE 10fcp Savage and the Remington LE 700 are the two rifles I am considering. But before I purchase I wanted to get some opinions if possible.
I will be reloading for this caliber and have intentions of scoping it with a precision hunter Schmitdt/Bender 4-16x50. And basically shooting paper/steel targets.
Thanks in advance for your help/opinions!

I was in a similar position about 2 years ago, I went with the Remington because of the availability of parts. Though parts for the Savage are coming down and are more available lately.
IMHO, you really can't go wrong with either rifle. I say go to the gunshop and handle both of them, see which feels better for you. If you get the chance get to the range with guys who own these rifles and shoot em a few times.

Welcome to the forum
It's really a tough decision. I really don't think you can go wrong with either. Both companies produce very nice rifles ... it really boils down to preference. The 700s do have more aftermarket stuff though.
I went through the same thing that you (and ReconLdr) went through. I ended up with a Remmy 700 5R. A co-worker went with the 700P. Both are great rifles and shot extremely well. We haven't taken them very long yet, but so far they both run great.

Re: Savage Vs Remington 308
I just went through the same thing with my Twins, and settles on the 700ADL for both of them,
Savage builds a nice rifle but I hate the Accu-Trigger, just my preferance.
Plus there are a ton of parts and other goodies to make your Remington anything but a Remington if you want.
Both companies build a quality product, and Savage even won the F-Class championship in Euope with their factory benchrest rifle, last year,
Like the others have said it will all come down to personal preferance and which you like better,
Do you plan on having a custom done with this rifle in the future? if so I would go with Remington for the shear fact there are so many goodies available, The Savage could also fill this role but there are less goodies around for it and they are a bit more expensive,
You need to choose, now that you have our thoughts, go well my friend and enjoy which ever you purchase.
Oh yeah, Welcome to the site, enjoy and learn from some of the best people in the state and beyond.
Scott.
