Default Southern Chester County Sportsmen's & Farmers' Association

Hi there. I'm a new'ish shooter in the area. I've been going to Targetmaster and the French Creek State Game Lands. I've been looking into a range, and because of distance and other factors the SCCS&FA looks like a good place.

Do we have any members there? Is it difficult to get into without a member referral? Any opinions on it either way?

    Thanks!

I looked at it, but it seemed like quite a hike. Not as much as, say, French Creek gamelands are, but still...

And Kennett is one way I can go home from work, which has some bennies.

I'm a member there, I like it for the most part. I just joined in December. I've been there around 6 times so far and usually have a whole range to myself. You can only shoot paper targets but there is no limit on mag capacities.

It was not hard to get a membership, you just have to go to a meeting and sit through a safety and orientation class. You do not need a reference. You can find all the details here: http://www.sccsfa.org/

I also shoot at Targetmaster. They are fine for pistol but not great for rifles since you can only shoot .223 there and you have to buy their expensive frangible ammo.

I'm also a member there. I'm usually there 3-4 times a month. All the people I've met have been nice, and the ranges are usually pretty deserted, even on weekends.

Question Re: Southern Chester County Sportsmen's & Farmers' Association

    To members of sccsfa,

In order to become members, did you just show up for a meeting, or did you have to contact someone on the council first? I sent an email to the link provided on their website, but haven't gotten a response.

    Thanks

    .

You don't have to take a safety class, it is just a new member orientation meeting.

I was a member of that club about 15 years ago. They started having alot of issues with the surrounding neighborhood regarding noise abatement, etc. I got tired of all the rhetoric I'd read about in their newsletter so let my membership expire and didn't go back. Not sure how they are today. I remember their longest rifle range was in the 100 yard area.

You should check out Atglen Sportsmans club. Very nice range, no issues that I know of with neighbors, and they have up to a 500 meter rifle range.
