Selling a handgun to someone in OH?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I wasn't sure where else to put it. I have a buyer interested in a handgun I'm selling. He is in Ohio, I'm in PA. We would like to do a FTF sale. Can I go to Ohio and have the handgun transferred at a dealer in his state? Can he come to PA and have it transferred here? I know we can't do a strictly FTF sale without a dealer obviously, I just don't know where the transfer must take place, my state or his. Can you cite the law too? Thanks for the help.

Re: Selling a handgun to someone in OH?
Yes, you can go to a FFL in OH to do the transfer. It'd be the same as shipping it to his FFL.
All handguns must go through a FFL in the receiving party's state.
Long guns can go through a FFL in any state, baring any state prohibitions or regulations on top of federal laws.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Call FFL in OH where he is thinking about your transfer, and ask. I think thats most sure way to know how it needs to be done...

Re: Selling a handgun to someone in OH?
If his OH dealer will do it, then yes you can travel there with the gun and do the transaction at the dealers location. If the person comes here to PA and does the transaction at a PA dealer, the PA dealer still has to ship the handgun to a dealer in OH for the formal transfer to take place.
From the BATFE:
(B3) May an unlicensed person obtain a firearm from an out-of-State source if the person arranges to obtain the firearm through a licensed dealer in the purchaser’s own State?
A person not licensed under the GCA and not prohibited from acquiring firearms may purchase a firearm from an out-of-State source and obtain the firearm if an arrangement is made with a licensed dealer in the purchaser's State of residence for the purchaser to obtain the firearm from the dealer.
