Savage 99C question
Recently bought my father a Savage 99C in 243. We both seem to be having problems with it feeding the first one or two rounds out of the magazine. We tried another mag from his 99C in 308 but its still the same. We only used some 100gr Hornady soft points in the rifle so far as thats all we could find that was not highly over priced and available.
I was thinking maybe its just the rounds OAL is on the big side for a lever gun but I'm still hoping someone might have other suggestions to fix this feeding problem.
He wants to use the gun mostly for varmint and maybe give it a try during deer season.
Thanks."Remember the first rule of gunfighting ... have a gun." Jeff Cooper

Re: Savage 99C question
How many rounds do you have in it when you try feeding? One or two, or is it full? If full, what happens if you only have one or two in,will it feed OK then?
I assume you are talking factory loads since you mention price, the OAL for factory ammo ensures that the ammo will fit in all firearms chambered for that cartridge.
Assuming correct OAL, I would guess you have a problem with the magazine, possibly bent feed lips or a weak follower spring.
You might try asking these guys, the wealth of Savage info is amazing.
