Can I shoot a pistol?
Hi, just found this forum to see if I can find an answer to this question. I have been a long time sportsman in western PA.
Just for clarification, going by this URL and reading under the Possession part on page 2, http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/PASL.pdf am I able to take my dads pistol to a range if I am 20? My one friend that is 21 might come along, not sure if that matters.
All that it says isIt is unlawful for a person under 18 to possess a handgun. This does not apply to a minor who is under the supervision of a parent, grandparent, legal guardian or adult acting with the consent of the minor’s custodial parent or legal guardian, when the minor is engaged in lawful activity including training, target shooting or competition, or the firearm is unloaded and the minor is transporting it for lawful purpose or a person under the age of 18 who is lawfully hunting or trapping in accordance with the Pennsylvania Game Code.

Re: Can I shoot a pistol?
According to the information that you've provided you should be OK. Does your dad know that you're taking his pistol to the range? Just kidding, I'm assuming he does. You could double check with the range and ask them what their rules/age requirements are.
Also maybe someone else more knowledgeable than me can chime in.
Take care,

Re: Can I shoot a pistol?
The range I plan on going to is one of the State Gamelands ranges near Wexford, but I didnt see anything about that posted there. Yeah he knows, I won the pistol in a raffle but he had to get it registered to his name since I wasnt 21 yet. Everytime we shot I've been with him but I was just curious if I was legally able to go alone.

Re: Can I shoot a pistol?
The one I won is a Ruger GP-100, .357 revolver.
So is that information I read wrong? Or is it just for a pistol that is already registered to someone between 18-20 from a transfer of father to son? I'm in no big rush if I do have to wait til I am 21, only a couple more months Thanks.Last edited by drewms64; July 24th, 2007 at 08:35 PM.

Re: Can I shoot a pistol?
when you turn 21 you wont have to have it transfered
since your father is giving it to you

Re: Can I shoot a pistol?
Hey drewms64,
I forgot to ask you in my previous post, have you shot your dad's pistol or any pistol before? Have you had any firearms training yet?
Thanks,
rand
