Hastings wants indoor furniture kept indoors

HASTINGS - The city of Hastings is cracking down on residents who leave couches, recliners, mattresses or other indoor furniture on the lawn or on the front porch.

City planner Rich Cartier says leaving indoor furniture outdoors could result in warning letters and fines to offenders of the ordinance.

The city of Hastings follows the International Property Maintenance Code, which doesn't allow for homeowners to have indoor furniture outdoors.

I wonder which pencil pusher dreamed this up?

Notice how it is justified by the International Property Maintenance Code and not the American Property Maintenance Code?

Same thing here in Lancaster too. They are worried about fire hazards and places for vagrants to sleep. I think it looks trashy to have a couch out on the porch anyway.

Lancaster has been coming down hard on city property owners for not maintaining houses and property.

The reasoning for the city doing this: Limit fuel for the street celebrations/demonstrations.

Pitt wins a game against WVU, for instance, couches will burn. tru story.

Never underestimate the stupidity of Nanny! After all, it was a female councilmember who wanted to pass Pittsburgh's Lost/Stolen law, even though she knew it was unconstitutional. She simply didn't care...and said as much.

Bureaucratic stupidity knows no gender.
