S&W M&P 15-22 Review
For my first post...
I recently purchased a Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 from Trop Gun Shop. Best price I could find around, and I purchased it for $430.
I'll keep this short.
First impressions: This gun is a blast to shoot. It is lightweight and is build solid. I've put about 500 rounds threw it and have had ONE jam.
Shooting: This gun is also a shooter, below are some pictures with different ammo. All the groups are 10 shot groups at 50 yards with open sights and a rest.
This gun gets a 9.2/10. It is just fun fun fun to shoot!

Welcome to the forum!
Good looking gun. Thanks for posting the pics. What ammo were you using when you had the jam?

Re: S&W M&P 15-22 Review
Great looking gun, I played with one this weekend at the Split Rock Show and hopefully it will be my Christmas present to myself (the only way I get what I want!!) The prices ranged from $530-$430 at the show this weekend so it looks like you got a nice deal.
I also hear there will be a flash hider barrel add-on coming soon. I think the barrel looks very plain without it.
Thanks for sharing and make sure to update with what you think of it down the road.

Re: S&W M&P 15-22 Review
M&P15-22 would be my pick and I own the GSG-5. The GSG-5 is fun, reliable and pretty accurate but a pain in the ass to clean and the barrel is like a piece of spaghetti. I also like the Sig 522, which I own. I do not like the Colt AR-15-22 because it has a thin barrel and some fake components like the bolt release.

Re: S&W M&P 15-22 Review
I got to fondle one tonight. Fellow board member brought one up for precision threading for future suppressor use, so I got to become intimately familiar with the upper and it's assembly/disassembly.
Nice piece. Plastic upper/lower is not to my liking. And I learned a valuable lesson (luckily not to the detriment of the gun) in that if you get it threaded, do NOT try to torque on a FH with a crush washer. The barrel is keyed to the upper with two keys that ride in SHALLOW grooves in the upper and the upper will flex allowing the barrel to jump it's keyways and spin.
So trust me --- hand tight only on muzzle devices.
But nice gun. Simple, uses std trigger components (in plastic lower) and stock tube is same as mil-spec. Not removable, but a mag-pull or other mil stock slides right on and operates correctly.Last edited by Pa. Patriot; November 15th, 2009 at 11:01 PM.

Re: S&W M&P 15-22 Review
I also have the M&P 15-22, I love the gun, have had a few failure to eject issues when other people have shot mine. Other than that, after probably about 1500 rounds it runs well.
As you can see, I have added the Magpul stock to mine.
I also had my barrel threaded tonight. See Pa Patriot's post. It was my rifle we ALMOST had a problem with. But all worked out. Like PA Patriot said, don't torque the flash hider. Unless you use a barrel vise and don't plan to remove it. I plan to add a suppressor later.
But all said and done, the thread job looks great.
I plan to take better pictures tomorrow after I "test" fire it.
I like the rifle and I would recommend it to anyone, unless you don't care for the all polymer. It is very light, the trigger group is standard, and the stock tube, although not removable will accept a mil-spec stock body, as Pa Patriot stated. It's a fun little shooter and the sights on mine were good right out of the box. Mine is also kind of finicky about ammo. The CCI worked the best so far, for me, and the federal bulk pack works decent also.
Thanks again Rich for threading my barrel.

Re: S&W M&P 15-22 Review
I believe it is the regular A2 flash hider. Nothing fancy. I plan to put a suppressor on it. This was a quick picture I just took with my cell, sorry if the quality isn't the best.
PS. forgot to add that Pa Patriot did a GREAT JOB and I would RECOMMEND him to anyone.Last edited by xd40_jim; November 16th, 2009 at 12:57 AM.
