    Default Laser Bore Sights

I am thinking about getting a $50 laser bore sight for my new 7mm mag...are they worth it? What distance can I sight it in at? With the price of ammo, it would be nice to make sure you are on target before popping off a round. Just looking for some opinions!

I like the boresighters I have. Distance and such depends on the time of day and how powerful the beam is. Also how much distance do you have for the target. Most laser sighters (when it a little darker and viewed with a scope) will show up at 100 yds. The farther you can sight the quicker the final adjustment with live rounds. When I use a laser boresighter I typically do it at dusk where the dot shows up the best. I mount the boresighter in the bore and have the rifle mounted rock steady on a good rest. I use the scope (or my spotting scope) to initially find the red dot on the target (might have to move the rifle around a little). Once I see the dot in the scope I just crank on the crosshair adjusts to put them on the dot. After that it's just a matter of firing a few rounds to do the final adjustments.

I have a laser boresight, but it's not really worth the money when you can bag the gun and just look down the bore with the bolt out. That get's you on paper at 50 easily and saves you $50 for ammo.

I have only tried two inexpensive models (both less $100, one was from Walmart).

I don't think they are worth the money because all they really do is get you "on the paper". I can do that by using a bigger piece of paper and making gross adjustments. Plus, they can be difficult to use in outdoor daylight and at distances.

IMHO, the theory is better than the practical application. I won't buy another.

    Same here.

Also, have you seen the pics of the guy who didn't remove his boresighter and banana-peeled his barrel? I'm sure they're posted somewhere, but I don't have the time to look it up at the moment.

Yeah, I saw that picture. The last I heard it was fake, but I don't know if that's true or not.

Even if it was fake, it's still not a good thing to a fire a round with your boresighter still in the barrel.

I was looking at the ones that you actually chamber into the gun...looks like a bullet with a laser tip! Sportsman's Guide has them for $49 each. (Not in 7mm, though...)
