Public ranges in the Altoona area?
I'm going to be visiting a 2nd amendment-challenged buddy of mine who lives in Altoona about two weeks from now. We'd like to do some shooting, but he doesn't know of any public ranges in the area.
Are there any public ranges in the area that we could visit?

Re: Public ranges in the Altoona area?
I'm a member at Altoona Vounlenteer Sportsmans Association, but the range is..lacking to say the least, but odds are you won't run into anybody else there.
I've been out to Hollidaysburg Sportsmans to shoot skeet. Its a much nicer rangeThe resident Saiga snob

Re: Public ranges in the Altoona area?
I'm assuming that both of these places are members only, is that correct?
My buddy and I were just looking for a range that we could go shoot at for just a day without committing to a full club membership. I don't think he'd care if we had to pay a fee for just that day though.

The Altoona volunteer range, eh? Why haven't I come across this range in my search? Does it also go by another name? Can anyone give me an address/directions/GPS coordinates?

Re: Public ranges in the Altoona area?
This is the way I usually go, since I live south of Altoona but I can give you other directions just gotta tell me where your starting from
Anyways, I take 764 (6th ave) north till I get to 58th street, where I turn left. Go back the road to the stop sign go straight through this intersection( 4 way), at the next intersection (3 way) hang a right and go to the next stop sign make a left (should be a T intersection) go up this road about a mile and a half, the turn off for the club road is on the right, but the sign is on the left. The road is steep, gravel. The road goes between two houses and passes under the railroad. Stay on the main road (there is a 4 wheeler trail on the left once you come out of the tunnel). The rifle/pistol range is straight up, the shotgun range is behind the clubhouse
hope that helps, if not drop me a PMThe resident Saiga snob

Re: Public ranges in the Altoona area?
Well, this is a delayed response, but I found this site of public ranges in PA, you choose the county and then you can choose the range and get directions:

Hope it helps anyone else checking the threads in the future.
