Default Looking for Steel Targets for 9mm-40cal

    Hi everybody,

I'm looking to acquire steel that will handle 9mm-40 cal handgun rounds.

It can be square or round, 6x6 or 8x8 inches. If anyone can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Heres a vid of my current stuff to show what I'm trying to do:

    Thanks!

    Local salvage/recycling yard.....

The holders can be made with cold round stock from the H/W store.

    1/4 " will handle 9 and 40, at a reasonable distance.

If they were using 3/8 or 1/2 in that video, that is some bad ass 9 do dent that steel......

Hey Fingers, is there a place nearby you that might have some flat stock? The local spot here sort of cleaned up and nothing but large pieces. We have np with paying some one for steel plates.
The holders that Garlisk fashioned worked real good when we went to a 3/8'" square stock rod. The first we made bent from the weight of the 1/2" plates. Actually, IIRC, the 9mm that put some dimples(the steel remained plumb, no cupping) in that steel were about as bottom shelf as could be bought. I foresee a safety issue using them for a sustained period. Can't see being anything other than over cautious shooting steel.
    Thanks

There are a couple I know of that may sell plate.
Try a short piece of wire to hold the bottom in to the holder, that will deflect the round down.

we shoot steel at my club all the time........

I see you guys are in Mohnton. Do you know where Seisler Machine & Fab Shop is, on Alleghenyville Road? You would be able to buy some plate from them, 1/4", 3/8" 1/2", whatever. They usually have scrap or drops that you could use, or they could shear it to size for you. PM me if you want contact info.

We had a steel target that was made from 3/8" plate about the size of a dinner plate. Nothing special about the steel. It did dent sometimes and even had a few bullet jackets sticking out the front.

It was hit with everything from .22lr up to 7.62x39mm FMJs.

It was a gong style target with the stand made from just a few scraps of rebar. 2 ninety degree angle pieces connected with another straight piece. The swinging part was that round plate with 2 pieces of angle iron welded to the back. It worked great and I wish I still had it.

I have my rifle. Do you?

I'm pretty sure that Cabelas (and no doubt a few other places) sells targets that are pre-made that will handle what you are looking to do. (long link, but )

    I have a couple of these: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...233&hasJS=true

They work well and hold up to all pistol calibers quite well. When you run out of the stickers, a $4.00 can of spray paint works just as good and lasts much longer.

If you are planning to shoot them with rifle calibers, get the set designed for rifles since 5.56 and 7.62x39 make holes in these.
