Default Legality & Possibility of Gifting A Long Rifle

I'm thinking of giving my .22 to my girlfriend's father for his birthday. He only has .410 shotgun, and he never hits up the range anymore since his friend who used to supply the guns for shooting left. He mentioned that he should get back into shooting, and that he should look into buying a rifle.

I just don't know if it's legal to gift a rifle to a person who's in good standing.

Long arms dont have to go through a FFL, So yes you can gift a long arm.

Intra-state (between two Pa. residents) you can transfer to any person you have no reason to believe is prohibited. Transfers include sales, gifts, trade, etc.

Inter-state you MUST use an FFL in the recipients state. (with few exceptions such as intestate bequest)

    just in case...

I would sell it to him for $1 and include a bill of sale.

I believe that absolves you from any legal repercussions.

Use the bill of sale thats stickied on the classified section.

A BOS is better than nothing, but if you really want to cover yourself then do the transfer through an FFL.
