Default A knife I made for myself for dressing deer

I just finished making this knife out of the finest Damascus steel I could get - from Alabama. Put some fancy filework on the top. Put a super sharp scandi style grind on it to ensure it's really sharp. Already managed to cut myself. Let me know what you guys think.

awesome, whats the design on the blade?
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Damascus steel is formed by forge welding layers of steel together, folding and welding again making hundreds [if not thousands] of layers [ie. 2/4/8/15/32/64/128/256 etc....], this is how steel was first made as there were no large pieces, the blacksmith formed them himself.

I've been blacksmithing for years, I can in fact forge weld. but I've never been able to get a satisfactory piece of Damascus formed. [I'm just not that good]

I do know people that can do Damascus and I've also seen peolpe that can pattern weld desired designs in there Damascus.

Acid washing the steel after forging a blade out it will bring out the pattern, this is more effective it there are different carbon contents to the peices of steel you start with because the softer steel will react to the acid faster making microscopic serrations in the serface of the edge.

PM for more info if desired.

    BTW, nice looking knife..

Here's one my kid forged out of a car coil spring when he was 13 [note that it's a left handed model]

If God didn't intend us to have guns why would he have given us a trigger finger?

Thanks for the comments. The blade shape is what is known as a bushcraft profile - based on a knife called the Woodlore. It was made famous by a survival expert in the UK called Ray Mears. (I made my bade a bit deeper for extra power.) The pattern on the blade is the Damascus steel - made by the layers of steel power hammered on top of one another. It's made of five types of steel to give a combination of hardness, flexibility and I guess is pretty too.

What you say is quite correct. The steel I used is folded five times and creates 416 layers.
