DPMS or CMMG bargain bin?
CMMG bargain bin - $702 'out the door' (includes bargain bin M4, A3, no warranty), 4 tapco mags, shipping and transfer)
DPMS sportical - $696 'out the door' (includes 223 AR, unknown upper at this time, DPMS 3 year warranty, shipping and transfer)
Neither have sights...have read benefits of both but it's nearly 50/50...the warranty may be the deal breaker though
thoughts? any other directions?
this would be my first AR, looking for a plinker

Re: DPMS or CMMG bargain bin?
I wouldn't personally buy any gun from a bargain bin. Especially not an AR-15.
I'd spend the $150-200 extra and get one that's right and has a lifetime warranty.

Re: DPMS or CMMG bargain bin?
I picked up a DPMS Sportical in 7.62x51 and it's been fine. I have about 500rds through it. It's been accurate and realible. I also have one other DPMS AR15 with a 20in bull barrel and no problems maybe 1k rds through the gun. The only thing a Sportical doesn't have is a dust cover. Since I'm not planning on doing any combat in the desert it's not a big deal.
Any vote for a third party is a vote for a Democrat. You are the enemy.

I'd be sure to get the AR in 556 if I were you, that way you can shoot either.

Re: DPMS or CMMG bargain bin?
While I don't have any experience with either of the two you are looking at, I thought I might throw out an alternative.
It seems to me that prices on AR parts are really coming down right now so I decided to put together one of my own.
I just kept my eyes on a few classified pages and first bought a brand new Bushmaster lower for 250 dollars. A couple weeks later I purchased a complete slightly used Colt upper for 550.
While I can't speak to the quality of the 2 you mentioned, I do know the quality of the parts I purchased.
Just something to think about.

If I were just looking for a plinker, I'd take a new w/ warranty over used w/you're on your own.
After 1000's of rounds through the AR's I've had over the years, I really can't remember ever using the forward assist.
