    Default First Time AR Buyer?

Can anyone recommend a good start AR? I did purchase a S&W M&P 15-22 (.22) and plan on putting a vertical grip, sling, and scope on it. I would plan on accessorizing the new AR (.223) with the about the same stuff, nothing to crazy.

The regular S&W M&P's look to be a little pricey. I was thinking maybe Stag Model 2? Ideas, thoughts, pictures, etc?

Just buy another upper and put it directly on your existing gun and use the magazines appropriate for it. 5.56, 6.8, 7.62x39, and others give you a lot of options.

Kinda funny and ironic that I say this with my 556th post. Heh.

Here is a Rock River that may fit your request. it has sights plus it can convert to a flattop. I've seen them priced for about $1,000 or less. purent.jpg

Keystoneman 85, Please don't do that! The S&W M&P 15-22 is a .22LR-dedicated rifle. The lower is made of polymer and is not made to stand up to the stresses of a centerfire round. I believe S&W designed the lowers not to accept .223/5.56 uppers, and for that reason. But, don't waste your money trying to or break your rifle if it can be done. Furthermore, the magazine well won't accept a standard AR mag.

This is correct. I read from an owner that the upper won't fit on standard AR lowers, which means vice versa as you stated is true.

On teh Interweb there are lots of options out there for $1000 these days. I've seen some new base models as low as $800. Of course, the sky is the limit with AR pricing...

Check out the classifieds here. There are some sweet deals on ARs at the moment.

I own a stag model 2t, and i haven't shot it much but to date it has been flawless. I would recommend it, now would be a great time to shop around since ar's are getting back in stock at shops.

AimSurplus has the Delton for less than $700. You could go with that.
