Question Moving to PA. Have questions about buying firearms...

We all know that Nazi NJ requires a permit for every pistol & the FID for long guns.

I'm moving from NJ to PA very shortly. Do I need to apply for any type of ID or anything as a PA resident to be able to buy handguns or long guns?

I don't know how PA shop to PA resident sales work obviously.

You do not need any additional ID. If you have a PA license and pass the picks check you can buy your firearm. By the way why not look into your LTCF.

Would someone please tell me what is an LTCF? I've lived in Pennsylvania since 1974 and I've never heard of it.

There are several stickies that will answer your questions. Plus there is a flyer that will help.

Allows you to conceal firearms, carry a loaded handgun in a vehicle (a big reason open carriers get them), and carry a weapon during a declared state of emergency. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bit, but those are the important ones.

To the OP, shop to customer transfers require a bit of paperwork and a PICS (Pennsylvania Instant Check System) background check. At my local shop, I walk in, pick a gun out, do a bit of paperwork, and 5 minutes later walk out with the gun I bought. Quite fast and easy. You don't need anything special to purchase long guns or handguns, just a driver's license. I highly recommend getting a LTCF.

The laws of Pennsylvania involving guns are like night and day compared to Corzinstan. Last summer I when in to a gun store to buy some targets saw a Smith & Wesson 586 walked out 30 minutes later with a new gun.

    As others have said:

To buy a long gun or handgun from a Dealer you will need:
    1. PA drivers license
    2. Pass the PICS check (2-5 minutes)
    3. Fill out a few pieces of paper

To buy a long gun from a follow PA resident:
    1. Money

To buy a handgun from a follow PA resident:
    1. Must go through a Dealer or the Sheriff's office

Definitely look into getting your LTCF

You have your answers so there is nothing in that for me to add. What I'm wondering now is......does this make moving to PA. feel even better? You can buy the gun of choice whenever the mood strikes you, and carry is legal (concealed requires a license, open requires...a gun). If you think NJ is bad now, wait till you get a real taste of greater freedom, not to mention a dramatic reduction in taxes. Welcome to PA! Where ya gonna be relocating to? And did you ever find that coach gun you were looking for?
