Default Its Time For PA To Get With The 21st Century...

Hey everyone, im starting this really as a "vote". I want to see how many people think that you should be able to hunt with a centerfire semi-automatic rifle/pistol/shotgun in the commmonwealth of Pennsylvania. I was thinking because i just spent $1600. on a super accurate hunting rifle and i just wish ill see the day that im allowed to take it into the woods with me. I was thinking a few good rules they could use with the law would be, have a round limit in the gun, (maybe only a few rounds in the gun?) . Id like to see everyones opinions on what they think if they passed a law like this someday. Who knows maybe if they see a lot of people are for it theyll consider it. Well anyway post your comments and criticism about it.

i personally moe people (younger people in particular) would grow an interest in hunting if they could take their AR15 or AK 47 into the woods with them.

I voted yes. I don't see a problem with it for most areas of the state. The PGC could limit the number of rounds in the gun. Even limit semi-auto to areas that don't get a lot of hunters.

Some of the areas I have hunted in the past would be a bad idea though. We used to get a lot of hunters from NYC/NJ (transplants) were I hunt. These guys would be more dangerous with a 20-30 round mag. We don't have that problem as much since the property owner posted the area. It doesn't keep them out completely but it cut the "spray and pray" crowd to 1-2 per season. Some of these guys are just as dangerous with a pump rifle.

I voted yes. Hunted with them in other states, no problem.

From purely the hunting aspect, I voted "No".

I like the dynamic of being able to hunt small game and birds with a semi shotgun but deer and bear with a bolt/pump/etc rifle. I like crawling through the laurel looking for a huge bar with my old Rem 760c.

I voted yes. You're allowed to hunt with a semi-automatic shotgun for small game. You're also allowed to hunt with double action revolvers, so why in the hell would rifles be any different? It's archaic laws that still persist because either no one's made enough noise about it or people are afraid it'll turn into the 'wild west' if we allow everyone to have semi-automatic weapons for hunting... just look at the bloodbath that happened in all the other states where semis are allowed for hunting. lol.

Just curious, was your vote of 'no' for you personally or for all of PA? I believe the OP was interested in seeing who would support the law being passed. Personally, I'd rather stick with my bolt action instead of a semi for hunting... but I'm all for allowing others to hunt with semis if they so choose.

Sorry no. I don't think a standard "its good for the whole state" is fair. There are a lot of areas that I'd be 100% fine with a semi, but in the area I'm at... hellll no. To many idiots that hunt within 100 yards of houses and very close to other hunters.
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Yes all the way. I grew up without this silly regulation in TX. If a hunter is going to be unsafe, they will be with a bolt or lever action as well. It's the same as saying that Florida has more speeders on the roads per capita, so we should ban sports cars.

I still prefer a bolt action in the field anyway, but it would be nice to varmaint hunt with a semi.

Absolutley YES ! I hunted in Florida with an HK 91. The only rule was a 5 round limit in the mag and you could even just pin the mag capacity yourself or just purchase a 5 round mag , no one cared about how you stayed with in the 5 round mag limit as long as you did so.

The " danger " isnt any more or less with a semi vs bolt action. I 've seen plenty of people cycle a bolt or lever action almost as fast as a semi. And the " not sporting " argument is strictly personal opinion and is in my view no different then the infamous OC/CC debate ( sorry jcabin )
