Default G27 Recoil Spring Failure Today

Well ya'll know I gifted my G27 to Tootie and today was her first day with it, shooting at the Meleanie Memorial shoot.

Now I have probably put 500 rounds through it with not so much as a whimper. Tootie put one mag through it and the first shot out of the second mag the gun failed to return to battery. Dropped the mag, emptied the chamber and then after some fiddling with it Rich (Pa. Patriot) managed to get the slide off. First thought was the spring was in backwards because the outer spring was pushed all the way back but then I noticed the lip that retains the outer spring had failed and the spring had pushed itself all the way back over the inner spring.

Did some research on the net and found this is a common failing of the compact Glocks, with posts all over the forums dating back to 2000 about the same thing happening.

I stumbled across this thread at the firing line: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...ad.php?p=39723 and they mention a Wolff solid rod replacement but the thread is 9 years old and when I search for this part I can't find them.

So anyone have a good link to a better replacement for this obviously poorly made part? Don't want to put another stock one in if it will happen again.

Luckily I also have a G26 slide and mags for it so she can use that until I get a replacement for this.

I've got about 4K through mine, probably time to replace the spring at least.

Well from what I've read on the internet it was something that could happen at any time.

Another good reason to keep that Kel Tec. You know, for when your Block is in the shop and all.

    Stainless vs plastic.

Personally I would purchase an OEM.

My G33 (27) spring crapped out at around 2K rounds... Replaced with OEM.

Yeah probably going to do that, might even call Glock tomorrow and see if I can sucker one of them out of them (hey I'm cheap, what can I say) .... but I will say this, from now on both the G26 & 27 springs will be fully inspected every time I clean them from now on.
