she was telling me at the OC dinner in Collegeville she was planning to discuss divorce with her husband, but was afraid he'd react violently....

I'm with you. I had actually posted a comment in the OP but decided to delete it/reserve it for later commentary...

In trying to fully grasp this incident I fail to see how someone can be so insanely selfish. I mean, if nothing else, he obviously has no care or concern for the kids. How shitty and low can you be. It has to be mental illness.

My thoughts go out to the kids and family. I'm absolutely taken aback by this. I didn't know Melanie outside of her posts and news articles, but I know I will miss her presence.

I'll reiterate the sentiment that was posted earlier by Falcn: If there is anything we can do for the kids/family, just say the word.

She had told me on several occasions of problems at home, (will not go into detail). During which time I begged and pleaded, screamed and asked her to leave. She was not sure how he would have reacted and she feared his reaction. All I care to say about that for now.

Seriously. Their issues, though not specific, were no secret here, so I suspect it was well known by family, and those who actually interacted with her in person.

This is not what I was expecting as I came on here to check my messages before heading to bed.
