What do LEO's load?

Today I found myself talking about LEOS and duty equipment. Topic ended up going to duty firearms and got me thinking... what kind of rounds to LEO's use on duty? Is there some kind of regulation in place that makes them use FMJ, JHP or something else exclusively or are they free to choose themselves?

the ammo choice is up to the department. The top three rounds used by LEO are: Gold dots, LE hydro shocks, and winchester rangers.

Not sure exactly what they use, but they have to qualify with what they carry.

I know a constable who provides his own ammunition (and has to qualify with what he carries as well); not sure if that's how it works for cops as well or not.

I don't know of any department that uses FMJ in their service pistols.

Yes, my younger brother just recently graduated from the NJSP academy.

The NJ state troopers' issued duty weapon is a .40 cal glock 22 loaded with Speer gold dot JHPs.

This is correct.

More so over for departments who use Gold Dots.

Speer makes a FMJ called Lawman that shoots just like there JHP Gold Dots.

If you ever get a chance to buy Lawman, DO!!!!

It is VERY hot ammo.
