Own an M1 Garand? ever got an M1 Thumb?

I personally don't know anyone that has been around an M1 that didn't get bit at least once (that's all it takes to learn ).

I never got "bit" by my M1, but came close my first few times loading it.

Nope. Lucky for me a vet taught me to load using the palm along side of receiver/knife edge of hand to keep the op rod back. Many clips later, still haven't experienced the joy of M1 thumb. But I know its still out there...lurking...waiting for me...for that one careless moment.

I own two, got partially bit by one of them while cleaning. She didn't catch me cleanly, but got me enough to politely remind me that she CAN get me if I am not careful enough.

I think your right Enfielder. It's like dumping a motorcycle, do it long enough and there are only two kinds of people, those that have and those that are going to.

Before anyone out there in the clip vs magazine crowd jumps froggy, the M1 does in fact use a clip. An En Block clip to feed the internal magazine.

I fired a M1 in highpower competition for a number of years and I never got the "M1 thumb"!
