    Default 1911 purchase

I want to purchase a 1911,but which one ? Colt, Kimber, Springfield,Taurus. There's a lot to choose from. I'd like to stay in the $600-$800 price range, and get the most for the money. Any info. good and bad would be appreciated.

Use the Search option on this site. Type in 1911. You'll find more opinions, recommendations, etc. than you can handle.

It'll keep you busy for weeks.

For that price range you might want to look for a good used 1911. I was in Tanner's yesterday and they had a few 1911's available both new and used. I think you might want to fondle a few and make up your mind. That's definately my next purchase and I'm going straight to Tanner's.

Springfield loaded would be one of the better options in that range.

If you go back in this section for about six weeks you will find a whole lot of useful information on 1911's. I read it all and ordered a Springfield Loaded.

Don't try to get away on the cheap. You're better off searching the used market for a reasonably priced Series 70 Colt or a Les Baer or Springfield. Personally, I don't like the Series 80 Colts, I think the triggers are crappy.

Finding a good used gun is relatively easy and it's also easy to find information on what to look for to identify a good used gun.

Smith&Wesson .....I'm finishing up on my third season of IDPA shooting with mine & it's been just about flawless. It was just under $800 out the door and has had no issues whatsoever.

Love my Colt 1911s. One Government and one Commander. Hey, they invented the gun. I am pretty certain that they know how to make this one!

Fwiw, I bought them both gently used for around $600 apiece.
