German Luger?
A friend of mine is talking about buying one of these. I don't know anything about them.
Anybody have one or have an opinion? He wants to shoot it, not collectors piece.I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.[

Re: German Luger?
IMO Luger's are sweet. Only shot one a few times, but I loved it.

Re: German Luger?
Very cool guns, nice balance. Can be quite expensive even for a shooter. I would do a lot of research and reading before spending any money.

Just watch what you put through it. Nothing like blowing up a 3k gun, eh?
I was actually thinking about saving up for a C96 myself... cool old guns.Just because 'perfect' is impossible does not mean we should settle for 'broken'.

Re: German Luger?
I own one. Its a 1916 and was recently given to me by my grandfather. I've shot it on several occasions, and what you hear is true, it is a gem to shoot. Very well balanced, fits in my hand like it was custom made for me, and unbelievably accurate. Just remember... NEVER shoot any "+P" or similar ammo through it. These guns are about a century old, treat them as such.
Definitely head over to LugerForum.com and ask around. The guys there know everything there is to know about them, and what to watch out for when purchasing.

Re: German Luger?
I picked up a Russian rework (one force-matched number) quite a few years ago for $275 at the KofP Gun Show and after cleaning, it worked and still works, beautifully. Use 124 grain ammo at around 1150fps. This is a little hotter than the "lawyered up" US 9 mm ammo, but the Luger has to overcome the inertia involved in the "knuckle" in order to function.
Also picked up a C96 at the same time, again, not matched, but with proper Mauser 7.62 x 25 ammo (not the Tokarev) running around 1200 fps, it is a beaut to shoot and accurate. Dave_n

Re: German Luger?
depends what your friend calls cheap.
both of mine were $800, but turns out both are worth much more than that. although both would probably be called shooter grades.it's only metal, we can out think it....

Re: German Luger?
I don't know if I would buy one as a shooter, I would just keep it as a collector's piece. Good luck to your friend
