    Default Engraving

I searched for my questions, but didn't turn up what I was specifically looking for... it turned up a bunch of NFA items and such..

But OK, I have some questions:

I was thinking about getting an engraving on my AR.

    1. Is there any place in NEPA or adjacent area that does this locally. I would rather not send it off, and if that is the case, I won't have it done. It isn't that important...

    2. What is the time period for a picture/symbol engraving if it was done locally? 1 week? 2?

    3. What is an average price for this type of work?

    4. Does the lower have to be stripped clean before the work is done?

I'm not very familiar with the process/requirements, so forgive me for my stupidity!

    Thanks!

I don't know of anyone in NEPA as I'm from the Central area. However, the engraver that Anvil Arms uses does a lot and IIRC they are not that expensive. You would have to send it to them and I would suggest sending a stripped lower, why take the chance of something being lost if they have to strip it to do the work. The work I have seen from the engraver that Anvil Arms uses is exceptional. You could talk to ithinkimamedic or edstephan, both have had engraving done on lowers by these people. As far as I know they will do any engraving that you want, cost would probably be higher the more engraving you wanted.

If you find one let me know.

My advice would be to have it engraved by someone that engraves firearms, not the pimply faced kid at the mall engraving shop. I've seen photos of lowers that were destroyed. And it's not like a trophy shop where if they screw it up they just grab a new plate and do it over.

I had mine shipped off to Orion Arms. He did the NFA engraving, plus I had him add my avatar to the side of the mag well. I forget the price off hand but turn around time was a couple weeks and customer service was exceptional (contacted me via e-mail with questions, sent photos of finished product, etc.). Anvil Arms would be another good choice.

For mine I had to totally disassemble the lower because of the location of the engraving and the type of machine he used.

Anvil Arms can do what you show in your last picture. They also have a pretty good library of stuff ready to go. I was thinking that you wanted something deeply engraved like the lettering/stamping that normally comes with the lowers or what you need for NFA (SBR) rifles.
