But here's what I heard. If I try to buy a handgun and something pops up on the background check that is a FELONY! Is that true?

If they find something on the CCW request it's just a denial of issue.

Im pretty sure it asks you on the form to buy a handgun if you have EVER been convicted of a felony. Im also pretty sure at the bottom it says it is a felony to lie on this form.

If you fail the PICS, they won't let you buy the handgun in the first place.

I'd be inclined to try to buy one first, just so you'd know instantly -- or within a week or so, at least. In Allegheny Co., it'll take minimum 3 weeks for the Sheriff to run the check.

That is terrible advice. To use another member's words....it's like looking for a gas leak with an open flame. If someone tried to buy a gun & they were a prohibited person.....that person could end up being charged with a crime.

These federal felonies are often committed in connection with more serious crimes, such as international terrorism, narcotics trafficking, organized crime, alien smuggling, money laundering, pedophilia, and murder. These background search investigations are critical to the President's efforts to secure American borders and protect the national security of the United States. If there is a record match, the FBI forwards an electronic copy of the criminal history (RAP sheet) to USCIS. What is this all about? What does this have to do with the OP's concern about a PICS check related to a LTCF or purchasing a handgun?

Im seeing guys here talking, they got theirs in 4 weeks.some in a month..?

Each county is different. Some are in and out, license in hand, some take the full 45 days (or more). Allegheny County may impede the process, evidently Luzerne does not. Here in DelCo, it may take a month or so.

Also, This thread is ~4-1/2 years old.

You posted to a thread that was started in 2007 and last update was 2010, and you're wondering about the discrepancy in information?

Took me about 4 weeks to get mine, no references called. I suggest that you get there at 8:00 on the dot because they get pretty packed and traffic is pretty bad.

Really? My daughter mailed her application on a Friday, had the yellow car by the end of the following week. We went downtown and were in an out of the courthouse in twenty minutes, if that long.
