Default Ok, so I checked out a SIG Mosquito...

Opinions anyone? I've read 2-3 year old reviews that weren't too fond of it, but have found no reviews for the most recent model. Would Sig have addressed and fixed the problems from a few years ago?

My Sig Mosquito has been pretty good gun.
I bought it to let my 11y/o niece to shoot with me(see, I thought if she shoot Mosquito, and I shoot my P226, we'd be matching, and thought it would be cool...What can I say? I love my niece), but lately, with ammo price the way it is, I find myself shooting it more and more then my other guns.
Its slightly picky about ammo i feed. Federal bulk don't seems to have enough "umph" to push the slide enough to eject spent case. Sig says that they recommend CCI minimag. But with my gun, I find Mini mag not that reliable. Even with light spring.

Combination I found that works best with MY mosquito is feed Remington .22 cyclon, high velocity(36gr lead HP, 1280fps - $17.95 for 500rds brick)) combined with stiffer recoil spring. Its been 100% reliable, and pretty darn accurate.
CCi Hyper velocity, and stinger works pretty well too, but more expensive then Remington, and have much more muzzle flash(which my niece find it impressive).
But unlike P22 I traded for it, it has decent recoil, its pretty loud, and it looks like a real gun.

My only grip with Mosquito is that DA trigger is fu@#ing heavy as hell!

i dunno, ive heard that its pretty much hit or miss with the mosquito, just like the P22, but i have the P22 and love mine. havent had any problems with it.

    its kind of like buying a Taurus {/sarcasm}

I HAD one that was a jam-o-matic even with CCI mini-mags and the heavy recoil spring. It was an older model with the metal magazines but I've since heard the new ones are shipping with polymer mags. When it worked it was cool but there were way too many failures for me.

I liked the gun when I shot it... I was shooting Nickels at about 15feet... I had a few hang ups with cheaper .22 ammo... But the high V stuff keeps her worken good... I liked the gun...

I've shot one and didn't care for it. It's too picky about ammo. The one I tried would only cycle using high velocity ammo. That will jack up the cost of shooting it.

    Get a Ruger MKIII 22/45.

I enjoy my Ruger MKIII 22/45, but beware, the grips are slim.
Also, there is no way to replace the grips unless you mill and drill to add true 1911 grips.

I would suggest a "regular" MKIII if you go Ruger.

I loved mine at first. Ate anything I had. It's now two year old.

    It's becoming picky.

First the safety would "walk on" and I had keep checking it and had to dismantle it and reseat it.

Then for a while every other round was a misfeed. After checking it over, I noticed the pin for the mag release was working it's wasy out. Pushed it back in and that problem was solved, for a while.

Last group shoot, back to every other round not going boom. We tried many different brands of ammo and I made a list of what it liked. Short list.

I brought it home & cleaned/lubed the hell out it. Helped but too many no- go's for my liking.

I'm taking her to the gunsmith for check-up. If she stills has issues after that, I am going shopping.
