Are there other wheelchair ccw-ers out there?

I became disabled 2 years ago and need to spend more and more time in my power wheelchair. I have had to change the way I carry due to being seated all the time. I use to use a fanny pack or IWB or belt slide holsters. Now I use a bag I carry in. Of course the wife and kids call it my man purse. It is not specifically made for carry, but I use it anyway. I would like to get one but need to get the money up for it first.

I wonder if there is other people out there in a wheelchair that carries? How do you carry? What adjustments have you done.

I know as a disabled person I look like an easy target for bad guys. But they will be surprised when I pull out my Ruger SR9.

We have a paraplegic family member. He carries his .45 using a IWB holster in the small of his back.
I find it amazing how quickly he can access it.
And I agree, physically disabled persons appear to be 'easy targets'.
For those, it's particularly important to practice your draw and maintain situational awareness at all times.

I am sure some how some one could fab a Fobus or BlackHawk retention holster on the inside of the chair.
So the gun would be easy access between your leg and the arm of the chair.

Or you could just keep the gun in a holster between your leg and side/arm of the chair. . .

You want easy access incase the need for it ever comes up.
Open carry is an option.
So you could carry a gun on your lap and not be breaking any laws.

Anyway you carry, just keep protecting yourself and your family!!!!

But DAMN man! With an LTCF, and with the hauling capabilities of a wheelchair, you could have a 14.5 inch AR-15 on you at all times! *Evil Laughter*

That being said, I would put spikes on the front and sides of the chair and get it up to ramming speed.

I'm not in that category and don't personally know anyone who is, but Bruce Eimer at Personal Defense Solutions in Philly focuses on senior citizens and the disabled. He's written a lot of articles that you may find interesting and there is at least one article on his web site at: http://www.personaldefensesolutions.net/articles.htm, about 2/3 way down, specifically about guns and wheelchairs.

You also might need some "counter-measures", scooby doo style for greater effect. I would reccommend a oil can/ball bearing distribution system on the sides and rear, as well as heat signature flares.


EDIT: I got so wrapped up in my "cahir of destruction" fantasy that I forgot my real suggestion!! I would think a shoulder rig would be just about perfect for you. And the other guys are right, you could fabricate something really cool like a serpa inside your strong hand armrest to compliment the crossdraw rig.
