Default Legality of mace/pepper spray in the city?

I know it isn't legal for Philadelphia residents to buy either within city limits, but what about the actual act of carrying mace/ps? A coworker of mine told me that both mace and pepper spray are illegal to carry on your person and that you would be fined $300 if caught. I don't think that's true but I want proof before I say anything to him... google was no help

They sell pepper spray at the R&S Strauss at Frankford & Levick... I never knew it was illegal. Mother & grandmother both carry a small bottle on their keychains, have for years and never been bothered.

I have bought pepper-spray right in Center City. Four blocks from City Hall to be exact.

And I always carry my Kimber Guardian Angel when I'm out & about in the city.

Laws which affect your personal safety are mere "suggestions". A $300 fine is a heck of a lot cheaper than an emergency room visit.

PENNSYLVANIA: Legal. “Chemical mace” is specifically excluded from the definition of weapons. There appears to be no regulation or restriction on their lawful use.

There are ordinances specific to stun guns prohibition, but not chemical mace. The fact that you are not able to find any laws/ordinances against it, it's legal unless proven otherwise.

Here are City of Philadelphia codes:

    http://www.amlegal.com/nxt/gateway.d...hiladelphia_pa

The weapons statutes are found in CHAPTER 10-800. SAFETY

You'll find, for example, all the city gun control statutes there (inoperative due to state pre-emption). But you'll also find other weapon proscriptions too. As far as I can tell, you can't carry knives and stun guns around. No mention is made of chemical sprays or batons (though IIRC PS state law syas something about blackjacks).

I know I can't get batons or mace/pepper spray shipped to me, but I've bought both in Philadelphia. I. Goldbergs at 13th & Chestnut sells both.

I don't know where you're ordering from, but I've ordered both Sabre and Kimber Life act and had them both shipped to my door.

More than one site (sportamansguide & cheaperthandirt come to mind) say they won't ship batons to PA.
