Default Shotguns allowed at PA Public Shooting Ranges?

    Hi:
Are shotguns permitted at PA state game lands public shooting ranges?
If so, is it restricted to slugs?
    Thanks
    John

Yes, but IIRC, slugs only. Signs in Wexford say no fine shot.

single projectile only. Slugs or a single roundball in a blackpowder smoothbore.
I have not encountered a public skeet or trap range in PA. and the rifle ranges allow no multiple projectiles. I assume also the maximum loaded magazine capacity applied to rifles and handguns also applies to shotguns used in these locations. which is 3 for long guns, and 6 for pistols.

expect to be checked out if using one, and I'm not sure if it's 'allowed by the letter' at any or all the ranges.

Had not problem labor day, but there was no official range officer either.

    As he said, ^ YMMV.

Some of the PGC ranges have shotgun ranges. The PGC site doesn't indicate which ones though. I know SGL 43 has one (but it's closed and grown over). And SGL 205 has one. I've shot clay pigeons there.

Just be aware that park officials (with the ability to ticket you, an act I assume is their main source of income since they do it all the damned time) WILL approach and question you if they see a shotgun. If you decide to go slug shooting awesome, just make sure you follow the rules to the 'T' in case someone sneaks up behind you with a badge.

Thanks for your reply and the reply before you. I waiting to hear from the West Shore gun club for membership approval (end of Sept), but in the meantime, I wanted to shoot my SG that I've never shot. I'd be going to No. 242. I wonder if I call the game commission, they would tell me if SGs are permitted there.

I wonder that myself actually. In the process of ticketing me for using 00 Buck the first time I was there (*sigh*) they said they ARE allowed but not with multiple projectile ammunition. Every subsequent time I have brought the shotgun and park officials have appeared (They only seem to show up unexpected on Sundays at the one I go to) I have been stopped and asked what I'm firing out of the shotgun. Once I was told shotguns aren't allowed and was asked to leave. Every other time, however, when they see I'm shooting slugs I just get a dirty look and usually a spectator hovering over me for the rest of the day.

Just head into the closest state game lands (away from any roads). Most are near the public ranges. I was told to do this by multiple game officials when I wanted to test out my new SG with different loads.
