Late season flintlock 2010
Any of you'ns mugs out there hook up w/ any deer so far this flintlock season?
I tried to go out Monday morning during the windy tail-end of the nor'easter here on the Plateau but, only managed to torque my arthritic knee enough stepping in a deep snow drifted rock crevice to force me back in for icepacks and ibuprofin.
However, the knee feels OK again and tomorrow is looking like a damn fine day.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 41. Calm wind.
I may even get up early on Saturday and start the new year off the right way.
Anyway, good luck y'all.Sed ego sum homo indomitus

Re: Late season flintlock 2010
My friend shot a small doe on monday his first. It was cool for someone to shoot their first deer. Walked in a ditch covered with snow and hurt my groin. It was still cool to hunt in the snow.

Re: Late season flintlock 2010
I braved the heavy winds & freezing temps on Monday for about 4 hours. We had @ 1 inch of snow. Still hunted for 3 hours & never cut a track.
Plan on going in the AM tomorrow. Hopefully one will run into my 54 cal round ballOUR HOUSE IS PROTECTED BY THE GOOD LORD AND A GUN

Re: Late season flintlock 2010
Not yet. I tagged a buck and a doe, so I really don't need the meat. I love flintlock season though, so I do plan on getting out at least a few times. Probably won't even take a shot unless it's a giant doe. Just want to get out in the snow and enjoy life.
Good luck to all!FUCK BIDEN

I'm going up to the cabin on the 4th to hunt Wed the 5th & come back to file unemployment. I hope to hear by then about an interview [recruiter called today] so that may change things some...I may try again the next week too...
I got a new lock from T/C so I expect the Renegade to work well...

Re: Late season flintlock 2010
Went out Monday in 5C, my schedule only let me hunt from 10-3. Didn't see a deer. Conditions were tough as most of the snow melted over the weekend then froze everything on the ground making it crunchy. The wind didn't help either. Nice day in the woods none the less, got some scouting in a new area done.

Re: Late season flintlock 2010
Got out a couple times so far. I had three does come in from behind me yesterday. First one spooked when I tried to turn, the other two stayed but on alert. I froze in a half turn. When they finally turned to leave I shot at the closest one from a off balance position on the balls of my feet and got a hang fire! By the time the smoke cleared I saw two deer running through the woods. I did the usual scouring for any sign of blood and followed thier trail for a while but it just wasn't meant to be. Went back out tonight and saw six running away at about 150 yrds. You can see for a mile with this snow cover!
