Re: Anyone Else Crow Hunt?
Well, I know I am not that good of a shot right to to be taking birds with a rifle. I need the lead/bird ratio to be on my side
Like I stated. I had never ever hunted anything or been around guns much until March of this year. I sold my motorcycle and picked up a new hobby that I'm learning ALOT about.
The crow hunting a couple of guys at work get together and do it. Just for fun and pest reduction. No where near as hardcore as some of those guys on crowbusters.
I enjoy my 870 with a 28in, Mod Choke, and around 5-7 size shot. Were all going out this weekend. It will be my first time with my new gun. I can't wait. We'll be over in the Shade Gap/Bicycle Pete area.

Re: Anyone Else Crow Hunt?
Do you use steel shot, like goose, or is lead ok? I'd be interested in giving crow hunting a try.

Re: Anyone Else Crow Hunt?
Lead is ok. Steel isn't required or forbidden.
I would've gotten a few with steel while I was out goose hunting last Friday, except I thought I needed orange, but I realized I didn't when I got home & looked it up.
Keep in mind it has to be Friday, Saturday or Sunday (yes Crow are ok to hunt on Sundays)
Current season started July 3, 2009 & ends April 4, 2010.

Re: Anyone Else Crow Hunt?
Roger that.
It probably won't be until later on in Feb/early march. The guys I normally go with are doing other things at the moment. There is a nice clearing in the SGL near my house which is closer to Gettysburg than Shade Gap.
I will definately keep you in mind!
As far as ammo goes. If there isn't much wind I always used the 7 1/2 shot 2 3/4 Express Long Range shells. If it was breezy I'd step it up to 6 or 5.
I've only ever went a handful of times and have only gotten a few but it's still fun to get out of the house for awhile..

Re: Anyone Else Crow Hunt?
well...i went today for mayby the second time ever. I have never shot skeet or any other bird before. I did have a blast and missed every time. we found an excellent spot but sat the wrong way and they came from behind us. We are goin out early tomorrow for some more action. I have a 870 express magnum, can anybody give me some advise on where I should be holding at. mayby at a certain yardage as well just to give me an idea where to start. I beleive I was using 5 shot. I at least think I prob should use 7 1/2 or 8 (right?) but 5 i dont beleive will hurt anything. Im young and just started the sport but love it....just asking for some advise...thank you very much
