AK muzzle brake reccommendations
I have a converted Saiga AK that I love, the last piece of the puzzle is a muzzle brake. Ideally I want one of the clip on types instead of doing major mods. Can anybody tell me if the clip ons are quality and, if you have one, which you have and how you like it? Thanks!

Re: AK muzzle brake reccommendations
I just had the same desire to replace the slant muzzle brake on my Yugo AK47. I read that the slant break doesn't work well except when using full auto.
So I replaced it with a birdcage flash hider similar to the AR15 style. I can still attach a bayonet to the rifle using this flash hider. Other types may not allow you to attach a bayonet.
I'm considering buying a Krebs AK74 style MB, I've read good things about them on other forums.
The flash hider on my Yugo AK screws on with left-hand threads, and has a retaining notch.Last edited by DaveM55; August 31st, 2009 at 03:12 PM.

Re: AK muzzle brake reccommendations
I was at the gun show in Charlotte, NC last month, and I saw a very sweet setup for Saiga rifles. The guys at DPH Arms have developed a nice clip that slides over the front sight hood on Saiga rifles (.223, 7.62X39, and 12 ga.) Once the clip is mounted, the threaded muzzle break goes right on. The demonstration was pretty impressive. It looked like good, solid workmanship. Not expensive either. No gunsmithing needed. Check it out.

Re: AK muzzle brake reccommendations
I've seen the Saiga muzzle clip, and it interestes me.
I've long wanted to mount a Phantom flash hider on my Romanian SAR-3.
(Yes, mine actually has a straight front sight, and no trigger slap)
The front sight setup looks about the same in photos, but I've never seen an actual Saiga to compare both rifles.
Does anyone have an opinion, as to how well this attachment might work on a Romanian 5.56x45 AK?

Thread the barrel then you can use one of the many standard ones out there.
These are supposed to be very good, but I've never tried them so can't comment directly on their products.

DO NOT USE A CLIP ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had one blow up, lucky I didnt loose my face or hand. They are garbage.
I have already posted the best compensator for a Saiga, You will need to replace the whole front sight block with one that is 24mm thread to be able to accept the compensator.
I own several Saiga AK's, I have had damn near every type of compensator.WAKE UP OR WACO!

Re: AK muzzle brake reccommendations
Were you using the DPH clip mount, or one of those twist/clip on compensators that grab onto the front sight block?
I've seen plenty of those AK-74 style compensators that twist around the sight block, and I would NEVER attempt to fire a rifle with one of those things.
The DPH unit looks like a secure mount, and fairly well thought out. Although, if this is indeed the unit you tried, I'll take your word for it and steer clear.
I can't see any need for a compensator on a 5.56x45 semi auto. But the idea of mounting a Phantom flash hider is appealing. I was actually considering having the muzzle threaded to use a Phantom.
