Colt Defender Hitting Way Low
I've put a few hundred rounds through my Defender the past 10 days, different loads, they all hit very low. Today upon returning home I filed a little off of the front sight, at 10 yards I have to aim about 2 feet high. Next trip to the range I'll take a file along.

Re: Colt Defender Hitting Way Low
Something is very wrong.
2 feet low at 10 yards would require you to file the front sight damn near off the gun. That is not up to Colt quality standards by any means.
Did you let someone else try the gun? Did you fire the gun from a bench rest at 7-10 yards?
I am in no way assuming that you can't shoot so dont get upset. I am saying that if the gun shoots 2 feet low from the factory....call Colt and send it back. DO NOT do any more filing of the front sight.
One of the nice things about owning a Colt is the re-sale value and the history of quality behind America's oldest repeating handgun company. If something is wrong...don't alter the gun...call and have Colt fix it.
Colt has a very good Customer Service dept. They will make it right.

I was thinking the same, possibly dropping the bbl in anticipation of the shot. My Kimber shoots great as well as my group of revolvers. Butt its still a very real possibility.
I've been known to drop the barrel at times. I need to shoot it from a rest. Perhaps this coming weekend.Jack

dropping barrel or trigger tugging...
If you can, have a friend stand somewhat to the the side and watch as you shoot. He/she should be able to see if you are tugging.

With the slide in battery and the gun in lockup, put your thumb over the muzzle and try to wiggle the barrel in the slide. If it moves at all, it could certainly be shooting that low.

Barrel is snug and tight.
Its a good possibility that its NOT the gun but the guy behind it. I've been known to drop the barrel at times. I could be one of those guys who just can't master the 1911.
I have no problems with revolvers.Jack

You could probably take money to the bank on it as well.
I realize that each shot fired should be a surprise. it may even be a comfort level with revolvers vers. pistols. It shouldn't matter, but it shows down range. With a .357 I can consistently hit walnut sized targets at 15 yards, but hand me an 1911 style pistol and it looks more like a shotgun pattern.Jack

Re: Colt Defender Hitting Way Low
I know this is a old thread, but I wanted to inform others about this pistol.
"1927A1" I know what you mean: My mom bought the Colt Defender a few weeks back. The gun shot AT BEST 4" low at 7 yards and was ALL over the paper. We had my mom, dad, me , my wife, and a friend of mine all shoot it (we are all 1911 45 owners) and NO ONE could hit the broad side of a barn with it. I gave my mom my worn out Auto Ordnance and she shot great with it.
The next day my dad contacted Colt about the unaccuracy of this pistol and they wanted him to ship it back right away. The are paying for the repairs and will reimburse all shipping.
Right now Colt has the pistol and I will post how it all turns out.
