    Default Rust on sks

I'm having an issue with surface rust on my sks, when i first bought the gun it didnt have any, i shot about 200 rounds and then cleaned the gin and let it sit, now there is some surface rust on the barrel and on the bolt carrier. It was only sitting for about two weeks, what could cause this and how can i remove the rust. I tried using very fine steel wool but it didnt work, my mine concern is the bolt carrier because i plan on reblueing the gun.

I've had good luck with WD40 and the extra-fine 3M "scotch brite" sanding pads. I was afraid that the 0000 steel wool was too aggressive.
