Re: 1911 ambi safety
On the right side piece of the safety there is a small flat tab that fits under the grip to keep it from moving to the right. The grip will have to be relieved to allow for this tab. The fitting if the safety is pretty straight forward and involves removing material from the safety where it makes contact inside the frame. Mine only took a few file stokes to fit properly. Based on your experience I'm sure you are quite aware of the "easy to take off hard to put back on" rule when it comes to fitting things together.

Re: 1911 ambi safety
Some are friction fit (your picture looks like it may be) others have a screw to hold the 2 pieces together. If a friction fit, make sure it is good and tight so it doesn't work itself loose.
It's not that hard to install one and if you work on helos you should have the mechanical ability to do it. Most will come with some type of directons.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Re: 1911 ambi safety
Those that are screwed together seem to have a better feel. Mine is the friction type, and has a little "sponge" to it, before it clicks into place in both the on and off positions. Not bad, but not inspiring, either.
You definitely can do this at home.Last edited by kevindsingleton; August 19th, 2009 at 03:56 PM. Reason: Typo
