    Default handgun transfer

I put a Taurus PT-140 on lay-away for my husband for Christmas. I will pay it off this weekend. I don't want him to know I have it until December. Should I just put it in my name or what?

Because you are married, you can legally transfer a handgun to your husband without going through an FFL. Therefore, you can purchase the handgun in your name and then just GIVE it to your husband - no paperwork required.

    IANAL! Anyone else's thoughts?

For future reference, posting a question like this in the pistols section inside of the firearms directory would be better. That being said, the answer you already received would be my answer too.
