Default First Pistol need some help

Hello everyone I am new to the site and fairly new to pistol shooting. I have been to A&S indoor range a few times renting everything from .22 to .357 and just about everything in between. I feel it is time to buy my first pistol and then after I am conferable with it start to carry. I am leaning to .40 or .45 acp but a .38 snub is not out of the question. My Budget is about 700 but if i can get off for less great it will all get spent on clips ammo and holsters.

I ask you for help, and ideas in what i should look at.

Thank You for your time and help

Well, you will no doubt get lots of opinions from others, but I'm a big Glock fan and would suggest you try a G23 in .40 s&w. For me, it provides a good mix of power and concealability.

If you're looking for a good target competition gun, the Glock 35 is another nice .40 gun with a longer barrel and grip. With your size, you might be able to conceal it well.

I also like the S&W 642, which a .38 ultralight. Very concealable and light to carry, but I wouldn't really consider a good target pistol.

Hope that helps. As always, try before you buy if possible.

I would have but he seems to have already made up his mind on his choice of caliber (.40 s&w or .45acp).

oh sh*t...I didnt even notice the 2 calibers listed!

I like the G21...but it's a tad big for many, esp to carry.

    I'd go with the G23 I guess, even though I hate the .40 S&W.

I'm also a Glock guy...not big on .40 Caliber, but if you want that or a .45, look seriiously at a Glock 30 (.45ACP).
Now, semi-automatic handguns use magazines, not a clip. There are semi-auto's that used clips...the Broom Handle Mauser comes to mind (the Luger did too, I think), but that plastic or steel device that holds the rounds and is inserted into the gun is a magazine.

    Good luck in your selection!
