Default ccw use in motel, not sure i agree with this

i understand not wanting to be a victim, but im sure the motel is insured for things like robbery. i also believe that the mother and her child were put in grave danger as he fired at the robber, in a case like this i say just give him the money, its not worth someones life, and if after receiving the money the robber stated something like.."youre all dead"...then shoot. it just seemed to me that he came awfully close with his aim to innocent bystanders. i wasnt there and i only see one angle, but money is replaceable, especially when its not your own or your own business.

This video was posted about a year ago and torn to shreds at that time (I can't find the thread off hand, but it's out there)

The general consensus was that the angle of the video makes it look like the mother and child were closer to the line of fire then they actually were.

And in the same situation, I would have done the same - it appears that the clerk didn't draw until the robber showed his gun. Once an assailant shows me that they have the means to kill me, I'm going to fight back with equal (or greater) force.

It's hard to tell from the angle of the security camera, but it appears the robber was far to the right. using my yewtoobs forenzix and based on the position of the cash drawer in relation to where everyone appears to be, it doesn't seem like the mother/daughter were in danger of anything but having their eardrums blown out. Like you said, though, we only have one angle, and it's a bad angle at that, since everything was happening to the right, so it's impossible to say for sure. But for him to hit a moving target with 3 bullets fired in rapid sucession is pretty impressive all the same.

Would I have done the same in that situation? It would depend on the location of any bystanders, but if I was sure I wouldn't hit anyone innocent, I probably would have done what he did.

damn right!. . . you see episodes of cops where they fire several times and miss every time...its amazing how big a part adrenaline and training can play in a tense situation, i loved the way he used his co-worker as cover so the guy didnt see him draw his gun.

that explains everything, thank you., and he's right about probably not having "perfect situations" as it's obvious the robber walked up behind the woman and her child as sort of a human shield...what a cowardly act...i figured the camera angle played into it as well.

all's well that ends well, another bad guy off the streets.

I don't think the guy would have fired "through" the child to kill the robber.
So let's take that off the table to begin with. He side stepped and cleared both the co-worker, the mother and her child, before he even began to fire.

ETA: still the thought of being in that situation is nauseating. I guess I'd rather puke my guts out and be alive after the fact than have my insides spread all over the floor by some hood.

right.....and them being clear is why i made it a point to mention the angle that i saw, and im sure he wouldnt have fired through anyone , but maybe someone with less skill and training than him (given the credentials he lists in that other link) would have hit an innocent bystander.

either way, the link to the article both clears everything up, and explains the situation more clearly...im glad he had the training and mentality to safely end the career of yet another predator.
