I'm pretty sure water pistols and rubber band guns are illegal in NJ

Don't think they've outlawed water pistols YET but,

    2C:39-5

"Handguns. Any person who knowingly has in his possession any handgun, including any antique handgun, without first having obtained a permit to carry the same as provided in N.J.S.2C:58-4, is guilty of a crime of the third degree if the handgun is in the nature of an air gun, spring gun or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas or vapor, air or compressed air, or is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with sufficient force to injure a person. Otherwise it is a crime of the second degree."

Actually after rereading that you need compressed air to shoot off a watre pistol so yes them too.

How about the "ammunition" for such weapons of mass destruction?

Some stores WILL ask for ID only because their policy is you must be at least 18 to buy a pellet gun. Other than that I am not aware of any issues you should have.

Saw this mentioned a couple of times and wanted to clear it up.

As bad as NJ is there is NO gun registration here.

It was my understanding that in NJ you needed permission to purchase the exact gun, each time, and you had to supply the police with the make, model, and serial number.

Is there a process required for someone moving into NJ with existing guns that he purchased when he resided in another state?

NJ does not have a mandatory registration requirement. It does have a handgun 'sales' database like Pa and it also has a voluntary registration procedure.

When issued, NJ Pistol Purchase Permits (PPP) do not specify any specifics about the purchase; the detailed information is inserted by the seller and a copy of the completed form goes to NJSP.

Purchase of a handgun requires a PPP for each handgun; unlimited longarms can be bought with the NJFID card

Moving into NJ with previously purchased firearms does not require registration upon entry into NJ; transport while moving is excepted in NJS 2C:39-6e.

NJ is ridiculous, hollow points, stun guns, and even slingshots are illegal. http://law.onecle.com/new-jersey/2c-...tice/39-3.html Looks like even my Buck knife is illegal along with other knives I own. It's the reason I avoid that state as much as possible.
