    Default Recycling scrap metals

Anybody here recycle scrap metal? I'm asking about brass in particular, mostly brass ball valves and plumbing fittings. I have about 4oo pounds of it in my driveway and am looking for a place to get rid of it for profit, Tell me how you find out the price and how 'stripped' it needs to be to get maximum dollars. I need to buy more ammo, so max dollars is key. Thanks, Bob

I turn in batteries by the ton, literally. My full F-250 will get me about $180/truckload.

All you have to do is find your scrap yard and they'll have a price list. All you have to do is ask them how stripped down they need whatever it is you have.

I just turned in 102lbs of #2 copper this morning and got $194.00.

Sure, it isn't the $800 I got from batteries a few months ago, but it works.

I have a scrap price list from early June:

    #1 copper was $1.70/lb
    #2 was 1.60/lb

    Aluminum ---.30/lb
    yellow brass was 1.00/lb

    stainless was .40/lb

If I have time, I take the steel handles off the valves and separate the #2 and #1 but at only ten cents/lb difference, it's hardly worth it. I do cut any brass fittings off runs of copper tube.

The scrap yard required my DL # to pay out.

There are two places in Conshohocken that will give you money for that. One is called Recycle Metals Corp, it righ near the Home Depot. The other is Bearoff Metals on River Road right by the dump. I used to work for a company that did some scrapping.

Tri-State Metals here in Bristol pays well. I don't know what brass is bringing these days, but 400#s should get you a respectable payday.

I don't have a truck, so I give my metal to a guy who drives it up to upstate NY from Wilkes-Barre. The market sucks compared to a little while back, but it's still enough to make it worth his while.

It really pays to shop around scrap yards.

What is the difference between #1 and #2 copper? What is 'yellow' brass as compared to brass ball valves? How do I 'shop around' for price other than calling and asking, or is that the method.
Thanks for all the input. Bob

Call and ask........ yes it is that easy.... but sometimes driving 40 miles outta the way for a few cents a pound difference just isnt worth it.....
