5.56 Prvi Partizan M855 62gr penetrator ammo

How does this 5.56 Prvi Partizan M855 62gr penetrator ammo compare to the Federal Lake City stuff? Ammoman has it for $479.99 per 1000 and the Lake City Stuff for $485.95 per 1000. Are these good prices? Is there a better way to go, for a brother on a budget?

If the choice is for LC M855 and Privi M855 for nearly the same pice i'd stick with the LC.

I do not shoot M855 in any of my AR's but i do shoot M193 (the 55g stuff). I usually buy LC but the Privi has been a lot cheaper so i shoot that for plinking at the range. When the Privi M193 first came out it was way under powered for M193 - but they've since got on the ball and they are pretty much the same. But again, if i had the choice between LC or Privi for the same price, i would buy the LC ammo. Not that the Privi is bad but because LC is, well LC.

At nearly the same price, take the LC. But usually you can find the PRVI cheaper - AIM Surplus has this deal: 1,000rd case (5 Packs): $359.75ea* for the M193.

At that price difference, I'd take the Prvi.

Despite never having shot the LC stuff, for an extra couple bucks, I'd stay American. That said, I have used Prvi M855 ammo I got from Midway in January. I paid $10/20 rounds, but I only bought 5 boxes, so it cost more than bulk. If you're buying 1000 rounds you'll obviously be able to do better. I was very pleased with its performance though. It goes through 3/8" steel plate. Oh, and BTW, if you reload you can buy just the penetrator bullets (pulled from USGI ammo) in bulk and reload your own. Don't know since I don't reload, but it would probably be cheaper. See gunbroker for pulled SS109 (the military designation for the actual bullet) bullets.

I've never shot Prvi M855, but everybody says it is top notch ammo. And more accurate than LC. If there is any problem with Prvi M855 it is that it hasn't been tested much for fragmentation, which increases the effect of 5.56 FMJ in self-defense situations.

The problem with LC M855 is no new REAL M855 ammo has been for sale to general public for about 10 years. The old stuff is still good if it is real LC M855. But the stuff we have been getting since then is XM855 or XM855 PD. And I think they dropped the "PD" due to bad reputation but it may be the same stuff. Much LC XM855 seen in the past 5 years at least has been beat up, a few crooked bullets, bullets loose or improperly seated, velocity all over the place, or none of that and simply perfect ammo.

None of this applies (most of the time) to LC XM193. People have found a few off-spec batches but I have fired thousands and thousands of rounds from the various XM193 packagings over the past couple years and have been completely satisfied with every shot.

If the XM855 looks good I would buy it. Yeah, looks are a pretty good indicator for this ammo. Otherwise I would get the Prvi. Which is always a safe bet for quality ammo.

I prefer Privi for 5.56 or .223. I have never had a bad round in a case and it is very accurate. I really like their 62gr... I have shot countless cases of it. LC is also great stuff but I have used much more Privi than LC ...
