Wow! That is horrible. How could someone prosecute him in good conscious?

    got_ink123,
you might want to change the title of the thread though, he gets 30 months, not 30 years

Yeah, um, this story was covered pretty heavily here about 2 years ago. This is old news - but it still does suck.

I watched this and I'm confused.
    Couple questions

    How old was this report?
Does the BATF have this weapon?
If so and it wasn't illegally converted what’s the f'kn issue?

I don't know enough about the platform to know if this is even plausible without physically performing some type of alteration no matter how minor.

Where is the evidence of a single trigger pull multi round burst? Other club members that heard it? The shooter? Couldn’t he have accidentally bump fired the rifle?

This makes no sense. Seems like another over zealous act of government trying to cover their ass after the fact.

The rifle slam-fired with soft primered ammo.

First, he got 30 MONTHS, not years.

Second, he was an arrogant man who knew that the gun tended to fire bursts, because he warned the "friend" that he lent it to (actually, a customer of his unlicensed gun business) that he shouldn't use the third selector position because it would "malfunction".

The more you know about this case, the less sympathetic Olofson is, and the less likely that "something like this could happen to you". If your gun malfunctions and fires bursts, FIX THE GODDAM THING, don't lend it to a customer. They got him for an unlawful transfer, not for unlawful possession.

There are plenty of cases of ATF abuse, this particular dimwit is not one that we should rally around.

Sorry, I didn't mean to stir up any tension or anything. A mere misread on the months/years. I just googled along the lines of AR-15 full auto conversion because I was just interested on how exactly a full auto worked and this came up near first. I was actually more or less confused on how a AR-15 malfunctions making it shoot an auto burst?

Yeah well, you're still a dick.

Just kidding of course. Welcome to the forum.

On the surface that case is very frightening. It screams of ATF abuse. However, as gunlawyer pointed out, this guy knew exactly what he had. He should have kept his little trick gun to himself and he wouldn't be in trouble.
It's total bullshit that we can't spend a couple of bucks to convert to full auto, but, it is what it is.
I can tell you've been rady8ed, you have a nice glow about you.
