Who makes an inexpensive rifle in .204 Ruger?
i were wondering which company makes an inexpensive Rifle in .204 Ruger , for say around $400-$500, all the ones i have seen are expensive heavy weight Varmint Rifles.
Neither Ruger , SAvage or Remington list anyrhing in that price range in .204.
Thanks Nyman

I don't know what the prices are today but check out the CZ527 American. It does not have a heavy barrel. And they shoot; real well.
Just checked the prices. About $750.00 list. You can get them for less. Still, probably not in the $500.00 range.

Re: Who makes an inexpensive rifle in .204 Ruger?
For some reason the .204 has stayed a pretty niche market, and for some reason it's kept the price up there on these rifles. Pretty much only the serious varminters seem to get into it. I would advise you to look into the .22-250 as well if that's what you were considering. They have almost identical ballistics, and nearly identical barrel wear, but you would have a LOT more choices of rifles in the price range you're looking at, if you go with .22-250. I personally like the heavier bullet for the wind anyway, although the .22-250 is a little bit louder, and gets the barrel hotter a tad bit quicker. Anyway, that's one option to consider.
The only other option that I know of, that is the caliber you're talking about in the price range you want is the Thompson Contender rifles chambered in .204. They're very handy little rifles, although lots of people who haven't shot them dislike them. Most people that have shot them really enjoy them, and they're dang accurate. I've only shot a TC G2 out to 300 yards, but it was dead nuts on the entire time. Either way, I think that's gonna be about your only other option for the price range you want.

Re: Who makes an inexpensive rifle in .204 Ruger?
Thanks guys, I guess i chose that caliber because i want to set up a Varmint rifle without setting up a varmint rifle if you get what i mean, in other words i want a varmint rifle but not the big heavy specialized types that's out there .
Recently i handled a beautiful REmington at the fun store in .204 Ruger but i swear the gun must have weighed about 12 pounds with a big fat long bbl. Nice gun though.
I never did like the Thompsons, dont ask me why, never shot one never own one never even seen one , maybe its something i need to look into based on Tom Cat's description of thier performance.
Is the 22-250 that good? I see a lot of guns chambered in 22-250?
Thanks, Nyman

H&R makes a good single shot for a relatively cheap price. Some require minor tinkering and trying out a few different loads to get MOA.

Re: Who makes an inexpensive rifle in .204 Ruger?
The .22-250 will give you a longer range. Ammunition is probably easier to get than the .204. The .204 needs to be handloaded to realize its potential.
The down side to the .22-250 is it is noiser then the .204. The .204 has literally no recoil ( not that the .22-250 is an ass kicker ). It is very easy to see the bullet impacts through the scope. If you are looking to make shots on a regular basis at 300+ yards go with the .22-250.
