Go progressive or not?

I'm facing a decision. I currently load on a Lee classic turret press, but I'm strongly considering getting a Dillon 550B progressive.

I went on Dillon's site, and to get the press and everything I need to load my three calibers and quickly change calibers, it will cost me roughly $700.

I could buy a lot of components with $700. But, I could load my ammo a lot faster and spend more time shooting or riding my motorcycle instead of reloading if I got the Dillon.

I got my $781 box of blue Kool-Aid (i.e. 550B and accesories/Dillon Dies) on Tuesday...to load .223 and .45acp. I didn't think I would need/want the strong mount, but quickly changed my mind and ordered it and the bullet tray...and the case bin and bracket.... $120 on Tuesday afternoon. I am hoping that everything should be here by Friday and I will be up and running. I assembled the press and have the .45 pretty much set up...without mounting it to my bench...kind of an interesting series of events. I can not wait to get the mount and be up and running. I will post pics once it is all together.

Dave, just keep in mind that you will still want to use your turret/single stage press for target/match grade ammo.

I voted for "buy the dillon"buty it really depends on how much you reload/shoot. If it's primarily handguns in one caliber, consider the SDB. Buying used is definitely cheaper, and Dillon warranty is for life, all owners.

I load .223, .45, and 9mm so the SDB is out of the picture, unfortunately.

I have a friend with a 650 and i use an SDB. He said that loading 223 with the 650 takes almost as long as with his single stage press because of how long the stroke takes to pour the powder in. All the other prep work takes a long time too. I have the SDB and love it. I load only 9mm though. People suggested that i get the 550 and i considered the 650 but have no plans on running rifle ammunition.

550...I don't know anyone who has one that doesn't like it. I love mine and am actually thinking about getting another one(because i have the money for it and i'm lazy). Its awesome, once tightened up you can get rounds to load .001" consistently. I still have a redding ultra mag though for real tac drives though (260AI, 338LM).

i have a xl650, i love it! the only thing it needs is a auto case feeder. i highly recommend a low powder/primer censor.
