Default If you have to chose between 2...

For 12 y/o niece, which would you chose?

    New Colt M-4 .22LR..

    Or ATI GSG-5?

I saw one of these Colt's carbine at the shop today, and Everything is great, except fake bolt release. Otherwise, its identical to my 5.56 M-4 carbine

I haven't played with GSG-5, so donno quality or how reliable it is..

Or should I just get some .22 conversion for my M-4?
Conversion is fine, except I'm not sure if 1:9 rifling is gonna work with .22LR..

I run a conversion kit in my AR...with a 1:9 bbl. It shoots just fine.

It's pretty much the exact same POI as 5.56mm at 25 yards...so you don't need to adjust them at all at 25...at 50 and 100 you will notice a fair bit of drop, though.

The conversion kits don't lock the bolt back, the magazine has an oversized follower that jams up into it on the last round holding it open, until you remove the magazine.

The other two weapons are fun though. But if she's just shooting it with you, dropping in a conversion kit is something fun for her, and something you'll probably have fun with too. If you are buying a stand alone weapon to use....then I can't steer you either way, both are fun.

    How about option 3

    A Ruger 10/22?

I own both a gsg-5 and a dedicated AR .22 upper - they are both fun but a 10/22 is about 1/3 the cost.

Now, if you are really just looking for a new toy for you and blaming it on the niece - I like the gsg-5 over the colt .22 and i like a dedicated AR .22 upper over both.

buy the conversion kit for 150.00 and spend the rest on ammo for her to shoot... well, and still have enough to pick up a 22 pistol for you to shoot while she does... lol
